Students in Brooklyn Park are served by three top-notch school districts. Most of the students in the city are served by the Osseo Area Schools ISD 279 which includes more than two dozen educational facilities designed for grades preschool to high school. Some of those schools include Osseo Senior High, Maple Grove Senior High, Fair Oaks Elementary, Palmer Lake Elementary and Rush Lake Elementary, just to name a few. The other two school districts that serve Brooklyn Park students are Anoka Hennepin ISD 11 and the Robbinsdale School District ISD 281. The Anoka-Hennepin School District is the largest in the state with more than 40,000 students currently attending. There are 28 elementary schools in the district as well as seven middle schools and five high schools. In addition, there are alternative schools for students in the middle school to high school age range. Brooklyn Park is home to several parks and recreation facilities where you can go and spend an afternoon with the entire family or with your friends. There are more than 65 city parks throughout the city, including Bass Creek Park, Brookdale Park, College Park, Edgewood Park, Oak Grove Park and many more. In all, there are about 1,900 acres of park areas for you to enjoy. Many of them, like Park Lawn Park, have sport courts, playgrounds, paths and trails for hiking and biking during the warmer months. Brooklyn Park recently opened its first official off-leash Dog Park located at Brookdale Park at 7650 June Avenue N. This park is open to the public during regular park hours through the fall of 2009. You can bring your dog here to exercise as long as you follow certain rules, such as being in verbal control of your dog at all times, providing water for yourself and your dog and being personally liable for any damage or injury that your dog inflicts.
